FAQ

What is the purpose of a pre-consultation?

You're inviting a complete stranger into one of the most sacred spaces. I want to make sure you know me and know that I am fully invested in you as a client. We go over why I enter the field, your previous birth experience (if you're a FTM we skip this), your visions for your birth, and what you expect of me. This is where the first details are put together.

When should you book a birth photographer?

As soon as possible but I definitely recommend as soon as you find out you're pregnant. I only take one birth every 3 weeks, so I can book up quickly! Also, if you choose to do a payment plan you have MONTHS to get the fee paid without worrying!

How do you know when to show up?

I will take your contact information and your support persons information. When you start feeling contractions I ask my mommas to contact me. While I'm always ready to go once you hit your 37 week mark, it doesn't hurt to have a heads up. Ideally I will be in your birth space (hospital room, birth center, home) once you're in active labor. I will be asking questions prior to heading in to see how far progressed you are, but general rule of thumb is 3 to 4cms dilated and at 1+ station.

what happens if you miss the birth?

Birth is one of the most unpredictable journeys. Missing a birth can happen, but in the birth photography world it is extremely rare. However, in the case which I am sick, injured, or otherwise unable to physically be there, I have a back up photographer on call with me also, who is ready to go at a moments notice. Should I miss the birth while in route to your location and baby decides to be born extremely fast, I will document as much as I can. I will also make up for the missed birth a lifestyle newborn and/or a family session on a later date in the future.

What happens if I need a c-section?

Depending on the hospital, I may be able to join you in the OR. However, in some cases which I am not able, I will document as much as I can prior and after baby is born. If you and your support person are comfortable with it, I can always offer my camera to them to capture what they can! The documentation of the story is what we're after here, even if you don't deliver vaginally.

Will you post my images on social media and your website?

Only if you give me permission to. I do not and will not post your images without your exclusive permission, we talk about this during our consultation but once I complete your gallery, you have the chance to tell me what images you're okay with me sharing or not sharing.
